Dragonfly was created for I Stand For® by Eliza Graves-Browne to raise awareness of the decline of the insect population worldwide due to mass land clearing, pesticides and global warming.

 Help save the bees:

• Plant insect-friendly native plants and flowering plants.
• Don’t use insecticides: they kill bugs indiscriminately.
• Turn off the outdoor lights to allow nocturnal insects to go about their business instead of being mesmerised by the light.
• Offer insects space in your garden by leaving areas of dead wood and leaves alone for them to live in.
• Install an insect hotel.
• Join an interest group and download an insect identifier, share pics and track their movements.
• Buy organic whenever possible, create your own organic vegetable garden.

Our Eastern Great Egret graphic was created exclusively for I Stand For® by Gold Coast artist Melanie Glenister,  a magnificent water-bird symbolizing freedom and hope.

During the 19th century, Egrets across the world were hunted down for their beautiful white feathers to use as apparel accessories. The Eastern Great Egret is now protected in Australia and still listed as endangered in Victoria & Western Australia.

Humans are responsible for pollution, deforestation causing habitat loss, overpopulation and burning of fossil fuels, behaviour impacting on the survival of life on earth.  In Australia, climate-change related bushfires have raged since August 2019, destroying up to 5,900,000 hectares (15,000,000 acres) of Australian forests, decimating homes and communities, destroying entire ecosystems and the broad range of species that live within. Koalas are one of the many species that have been severely decimated as a direct result of these bushfires, killed directly by fire and through loss of habitat.
